Neighbourhood Plan Referendum

The Parish Council has prepared a Neighbourhood Plan which sets locally specific planning policies that can shape growth and influence the type of development in our parish. Following extensive consultation, the Neighbourhood Plan has now successfully passed an independent examination and has been approved to go forward to a Parish Referendum on Thursday 10 September between 7.00am and 10.00pm at the Village Hall. The Referendum will operate in the same way as an election. Those residents in the parish entitled to vote will be asked to answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the following question:

 'Do you want West Suffolk District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Barningham to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Plan Area?’

 If more than 50% of the turnout vote ‘Yes”, the District Council will be legally required to ‘make’ (adopt) the Neighbourhood Plan as part of its planning framework. This means the planning policies in the Plan will have to be taken into account when decisions on planning applications in Barningham are taken.

A referendum relating to the Barningham Neighbourhood Plan will be held on Thursday 10 September 2026.
